Unlock Playable Characters in Repentance+ DLC

Your guide to unlocking every playable character across all expansions in The Binding of Isaac: Repentance+ (console edition).

Original (Base Game) Characters

• Isaac: Available by default.
• Magdalene: Have seven or more Heart Containers at once.
• Cain: Have 55 or more coins at once.
• Judas: Defeat Satan.
• ??? (Blue Baby): Defeat Mom’s Heart 10 times.
• Eve: Beat two floors in a row without picking up any hearts.
• Samson: Beat two floors in a row without taking any damage.

Rebirth Expansion Characters

• Azazel: Purchase three items from Deals with the Devil in a single run.
• Lazarus: Have four or more Soul/Black Hearts at once.
• Eden: Defeat Mom’s Heart.
• The Lost (without Afterbirth): Die in specific ways as each character (e.g., Isaac to a Mulliboom in the Basement, Magdalene to her own bomb, Judas to a Mom attack, Azazel to Satan’s attack).
• The Lost (with Afterbirth or later): Die in a Sacrifice Room while holding the Missing Poster trinket.

Afterbirth Expansion Characters

• Lilith: Complete Greed Mode with Azazel.
• Keeper: Donate 1000 coins to the Greed Machine.

Afterbirth⁺ Expansion Characters

• Apollyon: Defeat Mega Satan for the first time.
• The Forgotten: Complete the Broken Shovel quest: defeat the first-floor boss within one minute to get the Broken Shovel piece, clear Boss Rush to obtain Mom’s Shovel, then use it on the Dirt Patch in the Dark Room.

Repentance Expansion Characters

• Bethany: Defeat Mom’s Heart or It Lives! on Hard mode as Lazarus without losing a life.
• Jacob & Esau: Defeat Mother with any character.

Repentance⁺ Tainted Characters

Unlocked by reaching Home and using a Red Key, Cracked Key, or Soul of Cain on a hidden wall.

• Tainted Variants: All 17 standard characters have a Tainted version accessed this way.
